During Adult Swim Con, Toonami had a surprise announcement that it is once again partnering with Crunchyroll to produce an original anime series. Called Fena: Pirate Princess, the anime will air on Toonami and stream on Crunchyroll in 2022.
Fena: Pirate Princess will have 12 episodes. Directed by Kazuto Nakasawa (known for directing B: The Beginning and Catherine's animated opening), Fena: Pirate Princess follows Fena Houtman, an orphan whose mysterious past allows her to break free from her oppressors and set sail in search of a place where she can be free. Her journey leads to a lifetime of adventures and the accumulation of a diverse team of misfits.
"I'm thrilled to be able to announce our upcoming anime co-production series with our partners at Crunchyroll and bring Nakazawa's unique vision to life," said Senior Vice President of Adult Swim and Creative Director Jason DeMarco. “I hope you love these characters as much as I do.”
“The global anime community will love venturing alongside Fena in this new series that embarks next year,” added Sarah Victor, head of development at Crunchyroll. “We are delighted to be working alongside Adult Swim to bring this new series to life.”
