    Microsoft shuts down Project Spark

In an official statement, Thomas Gratz, Community Manager for Project Spark, announced that the game will no longer be sold, and will no longer be available for purchase on the Windows Store or Xbox Store. Developed by Team Dakota and released by Microsoft in October 2022, Project Spark was premised on being a platform where players let their imaginations run wild and create their own games and take advantage of other players' creations.

Owners of the game will still have access to online content until August 12, when it will no longer be possible to transfer player-created content, so take advantage of the coming months to select and download your favorite creations. Downloaded content can still be accessed offline. It is worth remembering that those who purchased the game from October 5, 2022, will be entitled to credit on the Xbox or Windows Store.

    The statement follows:

This was an extremely difficult decision for our team. When Project Spark came out of active development last year, many of our team members moved on to other projects at Microsoft Studios. While this means that no one has been fired, it also means that it is no longer viable to continue with all the work involved in keeping Project Spark running and online with bug fixes and new content, which is why we have come to this difficult decision.

Despite this news, we want to celebrate the achievements of our team and community. Our team has released 46 content packs, thousands of assets, and 16 updates since launch (on average, more than one update every two months). We have produced hundreds of livestreams and videos to educate and celebrate with our community. In turn, our passionate fans have supported Project Spark by uploading hundreds of thousands of creations and dreaming up millions of objects, behaviors and experiences. Outside of the game, they've created fan sites, tutorials, forums, apps, and more! We thank everyone who has played or created anything within Project Spark, as it would never have existed without you.

We cannot thank our creators enough. It's been an amazing journey to share with you all!

That way, players have about three months to download any content they want to keep or finish any of the online achievements.
